Mercenary Units are special types of units in Age of Empires Mobile that every player can use. Unlike in other games, they do not depend on the type of civilization you choose. To obtain Mercenary Units, you need a Mercenary Camp. The Mercenary Camp is a building where you can hire and upgrade Mercenary Units.
To unlock the Mercenary Camp, you must first upgrade a facility in the Castle called Mercenary Camp. Once upgraded, you can build the Mercenary Camp building.

Here is a list of all Mercenary Units. The type of Mercenary Units you choose depends on what type of units you focus on. If you specialize in archers, then you should get archer mercenaries. Keep in mind that this list is ordered by priority, meaning the first ones are the strongest and most useful.

Mercenary Techniques
Mercenary Techniques is a section in the Mercenary Camp where you upgrade Mercenary Units. To upgrade them, you will need resources and research time. You can speed up research time using research speedups. If your city technology is maxed out, feel free to spend all your research speedups on upgrading Mercenary Units.
The type of units you upgrade first depends on the Mercenary Units you plan to use. If you use archer Mercenaries, then you should prioritize upgrading archer technology. This way, you can maximize stats faster because researching all Mercenary Unit technologies is extremely difficult for free-to-play players.
How to Hire Mercenary Units
One great feature of Mercenary Units in Age of Empires Mobile is that you do not need to train them like other units. Instead, you simply change the unit type when setting up your formation.
To do this, navigate to Troop Formation, where you will see a small icon next to units for swapping. Click on it, and you will be able to change, for example, normal archers to Mercenary Units like Korean Archers. This means all your normal archers will be transformed into Korean Archers, which is extremely beneficial. You can switch back the same way.
